Ron DeSantis signed a weak-on-crime law in 2019 that lowered the penalty for dealing a deadly opioid.

The 2019 law, HB 7125, changed the felony threshold for dealing hydrocodone from 14 grams to 28 grams.  Hydrocodone kills hundreds of Floridians every singleyear. The law also changed the felony threshold amount for felony retail theft from $300 to $750.

"Ron DeSantis needs to answer for why he signed a law that makes it harder to prosecute the trafficking of an opioid that kills hundreds of Floridians every single year. DeSantis' soft-on-drugs policy was buried in a liberal crime bill he signed that was praised by the SPLC for lowering the penalty for shoplifting. Ron DeSantis does not share the values of conservative voters." -- Karoline Leavitt, spokeswoman for Make America Great Again Inc.
