Revealing Special Counsel Jack Smith's Troubling Past

Special Counsel Jack Smith has a history of bad judgement and investigating conservatives, according to Congressman Jim Jordan and former Virginia Republican Governor Bob McDonnell.

Former Gov. Bob McDonnell told Newsmax in an interview that he is “very concerned” about Jack Smith heading the investigation into President Trump. Smith previously led a prosecution against Gov. McDonnell that was unanimously overturned by the Supreme Court.

Excerpts from McDonnell’s interview:

"I just think there's a real judgement problem...It just shows me perhaps a lack of judgement in being overzealous, in being overly aggressive and completely wrong in a novel legal theory that was debunked by the Supreme Court."

"This is a major investigation of the former President of the United States and the judgement that was used in my case...shows that there were some real serious errors made here. And I'm very concerned about this person heading it up."

"To now put that person in charge of one of the most significant cases in modern history that the DOJ is responsible for -- to oversee multiple investigations of the former President of the United States -- it just seems like maybe there might have been some other attorneys that didn't come in with that kind of history."

Congressman Jim Jordan, meanwhile, told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo that Jack Smith tried to find ways to target conservatives during the Lois Lerner scandal.

“Guess who was the lead person at the Justice Department looking for ways to target and prosecute the very people looking into who Lois Lerner went after? Jack Smith, the guy Merrick Garland just named as special counsel to go after President Trump.”
